We end every chug with a different story song book and we would love to share some of our favourites with you!
1. Pete the Cat: I love my white shoes
Top of the list is the Pete the Cat series. Pete comes with some seriously groovy accompaniment that can be found on the official Pete the Cat website and there are a whole host of books to choose from! Our favourites are I Love my White Shoes and 4 Groovy Buttons
2. There was an Old Lady that swallowed a fly / I know a shy fellow who swallowed a cello
Our second book recommendation is There was an Old Lady That Swallowed a Fly. This classic is a great one to get the kids laughing and joining in as they name all the animals. We also love the musical spin off of this book, I know a shy Fellow who swallowed a Cello, which follows the same rhythm and has the added bonus of introducing the reader to lots of wonderful instruments.
3. Up Up Up and other Barefoot Books
We have a whole host of books from the wonderful Barefoot Books series, all of which come with a CD backing track. They are all so upbeat and beautifully arranged to keep the kids engaged from start to finish. This one is about a group of children that go on a hot air balloon ride Up Up Up into the sky!
This is a hilarious book about a cheeky but very talented boy who learns to play all the different instruments of the orchestra, and on each double page spread we see him loose interest in his newest instrument. He finally finds happiness when he discovers that his true calling is, as the conductor, where he can use his love and knowledge of music to bring the whole orchestra together. This book is a story about music rather than a story song book but it is a great way to explore the different instruments of the orchestra and the illustrations are so lovely.
